Election Night - How it ACTUALLY Happened....

To my Conservative friends:

5:00 pm – I ran downstairs to get the early train and the elevator took forever to come….. Once it arrived, there were 2 young kids (20/21 yrs old). The girl had an earring through her nose, had rings on all fingers (including her thumbs!!) and had some sort of carpenters nail lancing her eyebrow (so chic!!!!). The guy was wearing some sort of man scarf and looked to carrying some sort of purse (I guess it was European) and they were texting away on their oh-so-cool I- phones (us knuckle-dragging Republicans have old-fashioned Blackberry’s!!!) when one said to the other “Yeah, MSNBC said by 11:00pm he should have it all wrapped up!!!!” – Needless to say, I don’t think this motley crew were pulling the lever for John McCain and you probably not catch these two at GOP Mike’s house for a summer BBQ!!!!

6:00 PM - Picked up the wife and kids to go vote and pick up the, now famous, election night pie...... Got to the polling place and the volunteer workers had to be north of 90 friggin’ years old, I tell her my name and she says “WHATTTT!!!!” So, after I basically show them in the book where we are listed - she checks me and my wife's signature like she's verifying the encryption on the goddamn holy grail!!!!

Yeah!!! Like I am a fraudulent voter – a man in a suit with his wife and 2 kids with him….. Don’t bother to check Deshawan Jones over there with the corn-rows, a cafeteria clock hanging around his neck and his pants hangin’ 3 inched below his ass – he’s obviously a valid, taxpaying voter, I sure!!!!

I pick up my daughter and show her the Republican line and let her click all the way down the line to show her that we need to support all Republicans including Senators, Judges and Congressman... She then says “Now John McCain can win Daddy!!!!”

6:25 pm - Get to the pizza place to get the pie and they have on the Communist News Network (CNN) with Wolf O’Blizter and all the kool-aid drinking Obamanics all in a tizzy for the Messiah's coronation... I quickly paid for the pie and made my way home to quickly turn on Fox news to expel any of that liberal cabal out of my head....

7:00 pm - Polls close in VA and IN and they are too close to call, but the vote tally on the screen tells the somber story - behind in IN and barely hanging on to a lead in VA..... And when the results start scrolling for the Florida vote and we are 300,000 behind - I knew then that a miracle was not in the cards....

8:00 pm - As my blackberry buzzes with texts and e-mails, I find it hard to tell my friends that it’s not looking so good, prepare for the worst.... They are hopeful, but down deep, I know that it is not to be...

The worst part of my night came when my daughter kissed me goodnight and the electoral vote at that time read McCain 8 - Obama 3 because the networks haven't called many of the states yet. She said "Daddy look, McCain's winning - aren't you happy????" I looked at the twinkle in her eye and the dimple in her cheek as she smiled and said " Yes baby, Daddy is Happy".

And I was.... Because it put it in perspective for me in a single second that although I knew we lost a battle that we fought hard for and believed in, we still live in the greatest country in the world and I am truly blessed to have a beautiful family that loves me, and together, we will fight for another day. In my life, I have learned much more in the time that I failed that when I didn't.. We will re-group our party, assess what we did wrong and what we did right and come back stronger than ever….

The Morning After: When my son woke up the next morning and asked me “I guess Obama won?" I told him “Yes Ryan, he is the President now and as much as we don't agree with him, we must respect the office and wish him well for the future of our country..

We should not wish him failure like the libs wished on Pres. Bush when they rooted for us to lose the war, for our economy to tank so it would help them politically..... I said to Ryan as he went to school, we are Americans first, Republicans second....

It’s been a rough election for us all. I am sure you all invested your emotions in it as much as I did and when you lose it hurts..... I will be back periodically to check in the progress of the new President and make sure we all are aware of what’s going on.

It took me a few days to come to grips with it…. I am hurt, but not discouraged. I will never give up because I, like all of you, believe in our Conservative principles and when we come back next time, we will be stronger and more prepared for the fight… And when we do, it will be that much more satisfying!!!!

I guarantee it....

Speak to you soon...

GOP Mike
