PC Security while traveling is so much fun - Don't ya think???

To my Conservative Friends:

I, like many of you, did some traveling over the holidays and it was the first time in a while I have flown. I was traveling only for a few days so I did not have to check luggage which would have been even more of a hassle....

It was very apparent, for obvious reasons, that the security for the flight leaving NY was minimal in compared to the security getting the flight back to NY... Everyone hates NY - Even the Terrorists!!!!

But what a hassle it was... Let me set the scene for you.

* I get to the airport about an hour and half before my plane takes off to see an amusement park-like, rat-maze line to get past security... And when your on a line that long, you see the same people at each turn and the same snot-nosed kids ramming their luggage against the back of your ankles while their parents are oblivious!!!!

* And could the TSA dim-bulbs be any ruder than they are?? I mean, I am an clear-spoken, college-educated American with no accent and when I ask any of these trolls a simple question, they respond with the tact of a NYC cab driver and the social skills of the average teenager... Could you imagine how they treat people who can't read the signs and speak a foreign language??? I guess I should not expect from workers on the Government dole...

* While on line, I can't help but wonder who the terrorists among us are... Is it Vito the body-builder wearing a Guinea-tee while traveling to a place where its 20 degrees traveling with his trophy wife who has more make-up on than a street trollop and a face-lift that would make Stretch Pelosi proud???

I doubt it.... They are too busy wondering who is looking at them and staring at themselves in the reflections in the glass panels...

Is it the 3 college kids going on a ski-weekend with their knitted hats, man-scarves and their I-pods surgically implanted in their heads???

Probably not.... These kids care more about reaching "Pro" status on Guitar-Hero than bombing innocent civilians...

Could it be the Grandparents Walter and Dotty from Boca I met on line who were visiting their kids for the holidays with their cookies and fruitcake in tow???

Naah, try again...

Hey, here's a tip, it could be those two 20-something year-old Middle-Eastern guys with no bags carrying the Qur'an!!!

My point is this - What is the percentage of terrorists that fit that profile?? I bet it would be pretty high.. So why do we treat everyone the same as potential terror suspects??

Now I agree, all passengers should pass through the metal detectors and have valid ID's, etc... But must we all have to take our shoes and belts off and have our toothpaste confiscated??? We are standing in the middle of an airport undressing in front of strangers while TSA examines Dotty's fruitcake for contraband!!

There must be a smarter way to secure our airplanes from terrorists and for the TSA to spend their time and resources... I am not saying I am annoyed because I have to go through the security and re-dress by Gate C.

No, what I am saying is I think the security procedures spend way too much time on low-percentage prospects... They should spend less time with Vito, Maria and Walter and more time going through Mohammed's bag, questioning him and triple checking his credentials....

Why don't we do this??? I think you all know that is not politically correct to profile anyone, so we treat everyone, Walter and Dotty, Vito, and Mohammad all the same when we should spend our time and resources on high-percentage threats to maximize our chances of thwarting a real terror plot...

But we don't, we will direct the TSA to spend precious minutes thoroughly checking everyone while Makmood smuggles in a box-cutter in his underwear we didn't find because they were too busy seeing if Vito's Polo cologne was more than 3-ounces!!!!

Seems like idiocy to me....

Just my thoughts....

  3. I travel a lot (unfortunately), and the security is an absolute joke. On one trip I'm not kidding, the TSA (federal employee) made an older gentleman (at least 90 tears old) who obviously had trouble WALKING, get out of his chair and try to walk through the metal detector. He shaking, couldn't keep his balance and the TSA agent was giving him a hard time because he was trying to brace himself on the sides of the metal detector. I nearly came unglued. The older gentleman was obviously no danger of 'Rushing The Cockpit' or taking out a flight attendant.

The TSA uses no common sense, and that is the problem.

  4. Steve:

Great point and that is the problem...

Lets use common sense and profiling.... The Israeli do it and there has never been an incident on their planes...
